Different Kinds of Hearts

Some hearts are big and wide enough

To let others in

But there are hearts so small that there’s

Just room for one within.

Some hearts have windows opened wide,

Whose doors ring welcome bells;

But there are those with blinds pulled shut

And hard, protective shells.

Some hearts just bubble o’er with joy

Radiating warmth and cheer;

Others are lonely and withdrawn,

Enslaved by grief and fear.

Some hearts are friendly, sweet, and bright.

Fun to be with all day.

Some are so cold and dark, they drive

Prospective friends away.

But hearts are hearts, however hard

..And distant they may lie;

Each of them needs another heart

To love and be loved by.

Our heavenly Father loves them too,

Should not we do the same?

Should not we try to understand?

And love them, in His name?

A gentle word, a cheerful smile

Let’s always try to share…

The hardest heart will one day melt

With patient, loving care.
